Jennifer Melton is originally from De Soto, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1990 and Texas Tech University School of Law in 1993. Jennifer was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1993 and to the Colorado Bar in 1995.
After graduation from law school, Jennifer served as a law clerk for Chief Judge Osborne of the Eight Judicial District Court of Appeals in El Paso, Texas. Following this she served as a deputy district attorney in El Paso, Texas for a year before entering private practice. Jennifer is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, First Judicial Bar Association and the Texas Bar Association. Jennifer is currently serving as the Regional Director for the First Judicial District's High School Mock Trial Tournament.
Jennifer specializes in the areas of criminal law and dependency and neglect and has been a trial attorney for over twenty years. In addition to a private criminal defense and dependency and neglect practice, she currently has a contract with the Office of the Alternative Defense Counsel to handle court appointed criminal cases in Jefferson and Gilpin Counties and a contract with the Office of Respondent Parent Counsel to represent respondent parents in court appointed cases for Jefferson, Gilpin, and Clear Creek Counties.
Jennifer handles all levels of criminal cases from simple traffic matters and misdemeanors to violations of the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act and homicides. Additionally, Jennifer has handled hundreds of dependency and neglect cases and has vast experience dealing with child protective services.
