Often when referring to car accidents in Golden, people are referencing minor fender-benders that result in little more than some chipped paint and minor vehicle body damage. If one is indeed able to walk away from a collision having only that to deal with, they should consider themselves fortunate. Sadly, the outcome of car crashes is often much worse, leaving accident victims and their families having to deal with extensive medical expenses and/or (even worse yet) tragic emotional losses.

Such the scenario facing a local family after a 6-year-old boy was tragically killed in a car accident in Otero County. Authorities investigating the accident say that the driver of an SUV lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll on to its side. The driver and two other minor passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the accident. The 6-year-old was reportedly unrestrained when the accident occurred. Because of this, he was thrown from the vehicle when it rolled and ultimately ended up pinned underneath it. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

While no charges have yet been filed against the driver, law enforcement officials say that they believe drugs and alcohol played a role in causing the crash. When a person displays such negligence (and that negligence subsequently results in the loss of or injury to another), then those impacted by it may feel justified in taking legal action. Yet such action is rarely as simple as filing a lawsuit; one needs knowledge of both statutory requirements and legal procedures. An experienced personal injury attorney may be able to provide such knowledge.
